FRIENDS OF TOPSMEAD STATE FOREST WHO WE ARE…….
OUR PURPOSE
The purpose of the Friends of Topsmead State Forest (FTSF) is to offer programs and undertake projects that enrich visitors' experiences and also help preserve Topsmead’s environment and history. As the Friends of Topsmead State Forest (a 501 3© non-profit), we recognize our role as a support organization working with the State of Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) and the State Forest Supervisor to fulfill our purpose.
WHAT We Do· Provide educational programs such as Lectures on the Lawn and partnerships with local schools
· Offer Activities/Projects that promote good stewardship of Topsmead such as our Fieldwork Day and songbird trail project
· Support preservation of Topsmead environment such as the Butterfly Garden
· Preserve, collect, and share information on Topsmead heritage such as our Oral History Video Project
· Honor Edith Chases’ legacy and specified desires for Topsmead in her will: To maintain Topsmead and its buildings in their original condition and preserve its serenity and natural beauty such as our support in maintaining the cottage and gardens
· Support peoples’ passion for Topsmead with opportunities such as our Memorial Tree Program
· Make Topsmead more accessible such as our ongoing efforts to improve accessibility for people with mobility issues and our directional signage project
· Offer timely information about Topsmead through our welcome center and monthly newsletters to members
