TOPSMEAD IS IN TROUBLE! Like all Connecticut state-funded institutions, the park is running out of money. Cut-backs in personnel and shortening of hours mean the gardens and grounds can no longer by kept up to their previous high standard. That's where we the people have to step in!
CONNECTICUT STATE PARKS & FORESTS IS TAKING THE LEAD
TO CREATE A FRIENDS OF TOPSMEAD FOUNDATION
Here is their appeal:
“We are excited to inform you that on October 22nd at 1pm we will be hosting a walking tour and discovery meeting to see what talents and level of interest there may be in establishing a non-profit Friends group to help support Topsmead SF. We will meet in the Topsmead parking lot and tour the Farm buildings, Barbeque pit and end up at the Cottage for a meeting and refreshments.
“Attached is a press release and a copy of a flyer that people can feel free to spread about town. I’ve also provided a link below to the Friends of CT State Parks “New Friends Handbook” which can provide you with a little insight into the path we hope to be going down in the future.
“Jennifer Riggs has volunteered to lead this first discovery meeting and she will be collecting RSVP’s. I encourage you to reach out to her via e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org if you are at all interested and most importantly if you do plan on attending on October 22nd.
