Come Visit Topsmead!
The "Secret Garden" of Connecticut State Parks & Forests
Friends of Topsmead State Forest
Litchfield’s beloved Topsmead State Forest has a new 501(c)3 friends organization dedicated to providing programs and activities to promote, preserve and protect the history and environmental integrity of the park. Topsmead, the former summer home of Edith M. Chase of Waterbury, is located on Buell road. In 1972 she left her 500-acre estate, located at the highest point in Litchfield, to the State of Connecticut.
Over the past year a small group of people, many from the local area, have worked to form the Friends of Topsmead State Forest. The first annual meeting of the new organization will be held at the Litchfield Community Center, 421 Bantam Road, Litchfield, on Saturday October 27, from 2:30 to 3:30pm. During the meeting officers will be elected and goals for the inaugural year 2018-2019 will be discussed.
Anyone interested in Topsmead State Forest is encouraged to attend. Memberships will be available all those interested following the meeting.
